Thanks for the update Cal, I can't believe how nice this project is turning out. I've been off the board for a while myself with some medical issues, still trying to get caught up on what everybody has been up to. Loving the final look you're getting here, very nice my friend! ;)

It's been over a month now and things on the boat are winding down. Installed some accessory outlets for GPS etc. tinkered with the motor some and painted some of the inside seating framework. For all practical the boat is complete, trailer will be an ongoing work in progress this summer. Started the motor today for the first time, posted a link on the Johnson/Evenrude forum under "wish me luck" title.
Here should be some final pictures, maybe some later on another general forum title with videos on the water.
Thanks for all the input.....AGAIN.
I wanted the look and comfy feeling of a well padded 1930's style, hope I came close.

Satx, what should appeal to you is that I have it set up for fishing also. rod holders, storage that was built to hold coolers with ice, rod holders under the side seats, and locks for my downrigger weights. Not set up of salt water :) but for lake walleyes, white fish etc. The seat cushions turn over to be used as solid boards for a workbench type stuff.

She came out great Cal, very nice work sir! Sounds like you're well on the way to getting the motor sorted out as well, now all you need is some boating weather. ;) (and it's coming soon!)

Cal outstanding work, I drove by the Fox river in Omro today and the river has started to breakup. I would say by Wed or Thurs you should be able to get it wet in the rivers and try for some walleyes.

Jetflight, I was in Oshkosh twice yesterday, passed through going to mad town. Butte de morts is still solid. Fox in DePere is wide open, boats are going wide open dodging ice flows. You could walk across the river on the boats fishing "eyes"

The Fox in Omro was froze solid Saturday and was mostly open today, I couldn't believe how fast it went. Sure is a relief Spring actually is coming this year. :)

You guys talking about Omro, the Fox and Oshkosh. Did you know I boated there (had a place actually) for years? Used to run thru the locks to GRB before they closed them in '87. Also, used to go to Berlin several times a year. The Eureka lock was fun in the late 80s & early 90s when George & Shirley were the lock tenders.

Cal, double check your serial number. I think you will find it is 1766 OB 1037. It decodes as 17' - 1966 - Outboard - 1037 is the specific boat number.
Mine are 1566IOXXXX (15', not a titled boat, don't have reg certificate handy as I type) and 1769IO1012. It's hard to believe they built over 1000 boats each model year but what else would the 4 digit # represent?

I can beatcha on that. Used to go through the locks in the 60's, party at Wrightstown park. Those were the days !!!

The Herters that I rebuilt two years ago was bought by a fella and his wife from Oshkosh and are running it in the area now. How cool is that?

Re:Shell Lake Rebuild 10 years 1 week ago #92060

Just added a bit about the serial numbers on mine to the above post.

It's been 10 years since I boated there. Ran it yearly from 1974 when I was 14 until 2004. Lack of time stopped me from getting back. I can probably get there again now this year. But getting a shed up is this summer's project.

It's a shame they tore down the Eureka lock tender's house. There are conflicting stories as to the politics behind the closing of that lock & the eventual reopening of it. I guess the truth is somewhere in the middle ground.

The buoy situation is another story that was a panic situation. Radke was hired out of desperation in the spring of '88 and given CG buoys to use with a set of Loran readings. The CG used to sound the channel and use a pole along with the Loran readings to get it right. They just plucked them in and had Butte Des Morts and Poygan screwed up. There is a guy on this web site that moved a few buoys around after they were put in.

Thanks again Bob.
Was good to feel the wind in the face, our first 70+ day in the area. She's a utility boat for me, fish poles included and plenty of storage under those seats for coolers, net, poles, bucket, bait, anchor, buoys, lines, life jackets, battery, paddle et al. Runs quiet as a mouse. was next to a tourney fisherman at the launch ramp with a Merc 250 Pro and couldn't hear the Johnson running, had to look for the smoke coming out the back:)
