Those guys got things done!
My father served on two of the boats in the Med off the coast of Africa during WWII. Got blasted out of the water on the first one, I have the commissioning pennant in my attic somewhere. He grabbed it as it sank. I was named after one of his buds that didn't make it. Got the purple heart in it's original box also. His body was full of scars from shrapnel.
Ironic that while I was USN in the '60's I was stationed in Morocco not far from where he was.
