Got the new cam in the Homelite. Hooked up everything. No spark. Got to keep checking to see what isn't right.

check to see how your compression is. IF the cam is off so will the compression. That at least will tell you the cam timing is either on the mark or off it.

with the key in on position, do you have nominal 12vdc at the orange wire at terminal strip at engine?
If so, do you have voltage at the positive terminal of coil with respect to engine ground?
If true, turn key to off.
Look at points, as you rotate flywheel ccw do points open? Do you have .017-.020 clearance?
Call me Saturday morning Dave and can walk you through fire up.

Found the problem. When I took the distributor apart to get pieces of the broken rotor out last spring. When tighting the small stud holding the points in, the little square nut turned on me and was touching the bottom part of the disribitor plate. Hence shorting out the points.
I found this out by unhooking the points and doing a continuity check. Open or closed there was a short.
When that was fixed. I had spark.
So I hooked up the gas, turned on the key choked it and turned her over. Wa La. It started right up.
It is in time and running smoothly. Next step getting it back on the pontoon.
The new style cam is working fine.
Thanks to Bill R.

Excellent Dave, glad to hear the big pontoon boat will be ready to go.
You're running that 4 blade prop on her right?
Those make a Big difference, nice useable torque while manuevering etc.

Yep.
The 4 blade 8" pitch prop is on it. I ran it last spring before my cam mishap. I have a spare 3 blade 9" for back up.
With the new style cam I shouldn't have to pull it all apart if the distributor key breaks. The rotor seems to be spinning smooth with no illregular wear.. So I hope I don't have to worry about that anymore.
If the weather clears I hope to mount and rig it tomorrow. Hi winds and rain today.
Thanks everybody for your help.
