TOPIC: New acquisition

New acquisition 13 years 7 months ago #15171

Got this boat a while ago, but have not posted it. Not so much a glassic as it was built in the late 1970's/1980's by Mertine Marine in Oshkosh, WI. Hoping to get it water ready for next season. Needs a new transom, but is in pretty good shape. Talked to Merten Marine and they thought they built 15 or 16 back then.

Looks like if you get it going fast enough, it would fly. Cool Boat!

The hull actually is quite fast. The guy I bought it from has one in working order and has gps clocked it at 47mph with a 30hp Mariner. I drove his, and it's a real handful over 40, but really a blast.

Hey, it's got fins, they're just horizontal! I guess they'd be wings then right? Definitely a uniquely designed cool boat.

Don't really have a max. They were typically raced in 25 or 35 hp classes. I talked to the builder, and he has run modified 50 hp Mercurys for much more speed than the 47 mph I mentioned. I think it will be fast and fun whichever motor it gets.

One of the coolest hull designs I've ever seen. Looks like something that should have been built in the 'Jet Age' back in the 50's. It's beggin for an OMC 3 cylinder.

Kinda looks like someone turned the deck of a Hydrostream inside out.
