TOPIC: 1960 Lake N Sea... in TWO!

Well... my father and I got working on my Lake N Sea again... working towards a transom replacement... and needed to split the boat to facilitate this... well a hammer and putty knife worked the caulk and the staples.... and split it was! But then we had to get to the transom... We had always assumed the transom had been cut down a bit... but much to our surprise.. nothing of the sort! Here there had been an extension added... with that off the orignal lines of the boat were revealed! IN the comming weeks we'll be taking the top completly off and glassing in a new transom... pictures will follow!

retro,i see you have your work cut out for you,but after meeting you and your dad,i have no doubt that your boat will be a beauty,you have the enthusiasm that is needed for this,and you will love it,ill keep watching with great interest in your resto,if you need help along the way ,just let us know ,fiberglassics is the best place for info,as you well know there are a lot of great restorers here,eager to help if you need it,but it looks like you are well on your way.john

I guess I would really like to see the factory seam on one of these to double check what we have found.. I believe the raised trasom was just laminated right on top of the old one, but would just really like to have some visual comfimation of that... but yes, the boat is on it's way,... dad is also finishing up his Lake N Sea, so that is exciting as well.. refinishing the Gator trailer and eveything on that one!

you should put up pics of your dads restoration also,i would love to see it too.i think its cool that your both doing one,john

Rick.. perfect! That last shot seems to confirm that we have found the original transom height... is your diamond plate covering the original transom fiberglass? Thank you so much for sharing the pictures... I know you haven't split yours and most likely never will, but I am going to take a bunch of pictures of what this inner structure of this boat looks like for good reference for all..

thanks guys! John, I will take some picture of the Lyman and Gator when I get the chance... we've been doing some cars over the last few years, so the boats are a nice change of pace!

Ohh and Rick.. I am going to repaint mine in the original red and white... I imagine both of ours on the water would look killer... maybe someday in the future!

Ron,hope to be done with boat,trailer,and motor
for 2011 season.lowered boat back on 59 Tee Nee
today.Went for the retro fenders and 12 tires with
baby moons after complete strip and repaint of trailer.
59 Johnson Super Seahorse 35 next.

Great boat- I've got a '59 Lake N Sea that's awaiting a restore. She's all factory original still, so if you need photos of the transom, I'd be happy to provide them.

I got lucky- My transom is SOLID. I think the stringers are, too.... This one should be a cosmetic job.
