TOPIC: What did I get myself into?

What did I get myself into? 6 years 7 months ago #133739

Greetings, fellow Earthlings. I'm a new member and this is my first ever boat project. I thought that this would be a fun, yet simple restore project to get my feet wet. What did I get myself into? I have yet been unable to identify this boat. Any ideas and help would be fantastic. Thank you.

I am no expert, so this is not fact. It just reminds me of those fiberglass fishing boats made by Shell Lake of Wisconsin. Check out the later models shown in the Library and see what you think. You have a nice boat and should restore nicely. Always thought those glass fishing boats would run nice. Good luck. Maybe others will chime in who know more.

Welcome to the site and the hobby. Let's hope you don't actually get you're feet wet. At least outside of launch and recovery.

Thank you. I looked it up as you suggested in the Shell Lake library....and it sure does look like the 1968 114 Sportsman. If this is indeed the correct model, I now have an awesome starting point. OUTSTANDING!

If it is indeed a Shell Lake which I think it is, you have yourself a tough quality boat.
Easy restore. Word of advice, DO NOT throw anything away as you take it apart. The wood seats you will need for patterns. The transom will need to be replaced which on that boat is a piece of cake.
There is a ton of info here for you to immerse into. Just ask away.
Greetings and welcome aboard. Post lots of pictures.....we like pictures.

Welcome aboard. If your survive the fiberglass on skin feel while sanding you will LOVE it here. It's not so bad.

I work with a lot of high voltage electrical machinery requiring heat resistant fiberglass insulated wiring. I've become quite fond of that itchy, scratchy, burning, tingling sensation. Hahaha!
