TOPIC: Anyone recognize this logo/emblem?

Anyone recognize this logo/emblem? 13 years 8 months ago #12785

This is in the center of the wheel on my small boat. Can anyone identify it?

Pipestone was made in Pipestone, Minnesota - not Texas. I have no clue if that's a Pipestone boat symbol, however.

I think the reason this logo isn't ringing any bells is that the picture is UPSIDE DOWN! :) At the Beloit boat show yesterday, someone pointed out that my steering wheel base was loose. So I got a screwdriver and went to tighten the screws and in the course of doing that discovered the name Perko cast into the bottom of the base! So it would appear that the steering wheel - and assembly is a Perko! Which fits with the fact that the other hardware is and was Perko products!

Here's a picture flipped 180 degrees. A very stylized "P" for Perko!:

And here is the full wheel. Sorry for the rest of the boat being "upside down"! :)

Does anyone have any old Perko catalogs from the mid to late 60's which might show this wheel? That could help me determine a year for my boat.

It's fun why a mystery is solved.

I find it interesting with some manufacturers where they would sometimes just use the steering wheels with the manufacturers logo, Perko, in your case, Vorath and Attwood, in my case.

On Larson's, sometimes they would have a custom center with the boat manufacturers logo. (but not always) It sure makes restoration interesting.

I don't remember where I found this image- probably ebay. This is the cover of the 1959 Perko brochure:
