We're restoring a 1958 Chris-Craft Commander 32-footer, starting from the inside out. Here are a few before/after photos:

I used to be a home improvement contractor and self-taught cabinetmaker who restored antique cars for a hobby. Then I restored a 1980 CC Scorpion but went crazy on the custom woodwork...it drew crowds. After that, I restored the Elco 57...then did the 1961 Century conversion. After THAT, people were coming out of the woodwork asking if I could do their boat. A new career was born. So...I hire a helper, build a website and suddenly I'm a marine mogul! HA! It's like retirement with pay. After all, if I was really retired, I'd be restoring old boats, right? "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses"...of dead boats.

Found this red brass ship's light with a Fresnel lens on Ebay...cheap. Polished it up, re-wired it for 110V and built it in over the dining table this afternoon. Not original CC but the owner loves it.

Nautilus, Geesh, another busy guy! Great work and website. I think I remember the ski-dart from the Centurywoodenboat site and the discussion on the venting of the 327. All along I thought these were your personal boats and projects. Take a break and go boating for a day.

Yes...the Century is mine. (Wanna buy it?) I also own the Elco that we use for a wine and cheese cruise business. (matriarchyacht.com)The 1980 CC Scorpion went to my neighbor for $8,500...not bad for a 31 year old glass Chris Craft. All the rest belong to my clients.

Last February, I would have definitely been interested in that Century. But, I got into the Glen-L boat that is in my signature and I don't have room for a third.

I have great respect for anyone willing to restore a huge wooden cruiser. So many rot away just because they are too much work to fix. Beautiful! with a capital B!

I had considered taking the Century to the show this weekend but a funny thing happened on Saturday...I sold it! A guy made me an offer I couldn't refuse.

Yes, Bettie will be residing on Lake Keowee at The Cliffs. Since you never got to see her, here are a few photos taken tonight. The new owner wants to pay me to remove the name and artwork so he can rename the boat...which I think sucks but what the hell...it's his boat and money's money. Whatever.

Nautilus,
Oh no say it isn't so, thou shalt not rename a boat without going through the ceremony lest ye have very bad luck!!!!!!!!!!! The text is too long so here's the link. boatsafe.com/nauticalknowhow/rename.htm

Good Luck ;)

I heard that! Both of those are absolutely gorgeous restorations, IMHO. I'm a "build 'em to drive 'em" kinda guy, but I sure wouldn't want anybody getting anywhere close to me on the water with either of those.

Good point Bob, they say that's "bad mojo" if you don't do the ceremony! (?)

We launched on Friday, June 29th and I snapped this photo the next day. Water intake was extremely minimal and is handled by the bow bilge pump at the rate of maybe a gallon every five minutes...and decreasing steadily.
