I'm doing a topside resto on a 1963 Chris Craft Ski Boat. The original idea was to sand the topsides down to bare wood, re-stain and re-varnish. The boat had white vinyl on the topsides when it came from the factory but someone removed it and added "wood" instead. The "wood" was strips of your basic Home Depot indoor wall paneling which I discovered immediately when the sander went right through the microscopic veneer. It had been put down with Gorilla glue and it all had to be chiseled off in a couple thousand pieces.

I tried to sell the idea of taking it back to original by recovering with white vinyl but the owner wants wood decking. I'm in the process of replacing the entire topsides as well as the transom. I'll post photos when finished.
