Question for the Merc restoration artists;
after scuffing up and some detailing, I have the zinc on, pics attached. The internal components were already gone through so I am refinishing the engine exterior as you see it. All trim removed for polishing, etc. I've read various comments on line regarding clear coat over the phantom black.
no clear?
clear just the top?
clear the whole engine?
what is holding up?
pros & cons if any?
Thanks for you input and experience,
Eric

I am not a restorer or expert by any means. I am just going to insert a picture of the end result of me just spraying Phantom Black from a Mercury rattle can on top of old black paint scuffed up using no primer and no clear coat. Sorry the old pictures are sideways. I have since realized I can only hold my phone camera one way for it to work right, but hopefully you can see the finish.
