TOPIC: Soaking '69 merc 1000 pistons/ cylinders?

Soaking '69 merc 1000 pistons/ cylinders? 9 years 8 months ago #121192

I have some time before I can continue funding my engine, '69 merc 1000ss, but in the next week or two is it a good idea for me to soak the Pistons or anything, to help break down carbon deposits? I remember reading a post from dr frankenmerc about soaking seized pistons, can anyone find that article by chance? Or is there a search feature I can use? And is this a good idea? Should I worry about carbon deposits? I have a couple weeks of the engine just sitting so it's easy for me to do if it's necessary! Thanks a lot!!!

I've read that Pine-Sol actually does a decent job of this, and it's a lot cheaper than an automotive-type carbon solvent.
