On my new Jetabout someone lifted the Mark 58 and broke the metal sheathing on the steering cable. I have included pictures. Is there a fix for this? Can the two pieces of sheathing be brazed or welded together? I would appreciate any help/advice I can get.

You can see the flexible metal cable with both halves of the sheathing pulled apart. Can they be welded? Turn the steering the opposite way and they come together.

Thanks Frog, just seeing what others have done in similar situations.

Hi Steve,
The issue is complicated by the smaller cable size and unique Mercury cable end, so you must either:
1) find an early Ride-Guide cable in the correct length in serviceable condition (not impossible, but not easy either)
2) find a later (larger) Ride-Guide cable in the correct length in serviceable condition, and exchange the support tube and modify for the eye end attachment fasteners to the bottom cowl mounted bracket (we did this for a customer earlier in the year)
3) change the steering system out for a currently available brand, and exchange the support tube and modify for the eye end attachment fasteners to the bottom cowl mounted bracket

Regards,
Joe

Keeping my fingers crossed for a serviceable used one. The connector end at the engine side doesn't look like it would be too difficult to modify. Not certain about the steering apparatus end, I haven't taken the cable off that end yet.
