TOPIC: Crazing repair advice needed

Crazing repair advice needed 2 years 9 months ago #144991

Hello Everyone,
I'm restoring a 1959 Bellboy Banshee. It's got some wicked crazing going on and in some places it's through the gelcoat and into the glass.
I wanted to run my approach to the problem by you all and see if I'm on the right track.

I have the top free and ready to separate from the hull and I'm planning on flipping it upside down and lay some matt down to reinforce the areas opposite where the cracks are. (I'd hate to do all my repairs only get stress cracks when I move it around)

Then, after reinforcing those compromised areas, flip it back over and grind out the cracks with a dremil tool and fill them with a polyester filler, countour as needed and then roll on a few layers of epoxy to replace the gelcoat I removed.

Does that sound about right? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I redid a glasspar g3 that had a lot of grazing on the deck , what I did was put a layer of 120 fibre glass cloth and epoxy resin then vacuum bagged it , then smoothed with bondo and it still looks good years later , saved a lot of time grinding .

I grind every little crack with a Dremel tool and fill with Total Boat epoxy, prime and paint.
