TOPIC: Speedometer

I don't know if there are different kinds, imagine there are, but mine has a white plastic piece that hangs off the transome. There is an inverted "V" shape of wire off the bottom. A black tube runs up to a hole in the transome and up to the speedometer.

Even if it is clear of weeds or anything i can see it only works half the time.

According to the GPS on my phone it's fairly accurate when it's working.

I noticed it is spring loaded if you hit something and you have to push it back down.

Ideas?

I'd be going along with mine working just fine and then it'd just stop. In my case it was leaves in the water occasionally wrapping around the pick up.Next time your speedometer stops, try stopping and reversing the boat and go again.

Yup - leaves, lake trash, and I've even had a piece of pine straw find it's way into the small opening on the pitot pickup for the speedo. Before putting the boat up for the winter I unhook the hose at the back of the speedo and use compressed air to blow back toward the pickup to clear the line of water and trash. (Don't blow the air back toward the gauge as it could be damaged by too much pressure!)
