Just picked up this 1961- 16' Buehler Turbocraft out of an estate. 292 with side draft carbs - 3 stage pump. It was fairly well restored in the early '90s they stored in a heated barn. Need to get it fired up, some cleaning then hit the water.

Welcome to the forum! There are a few of us here. I hope to have mine in the water this summer. Lots of parts coming back from being restored. Could we please get some interior / motor shots.

Welcome aboard ethp, glad to have you join us. Yes, we'd love to see some more pics of your Bueler, looks like you found a nice one! I know very little about the jet drives, but I've heard several folks who do state emphatically NOT to run them without water. (Garden hose okay for short time at idle, anything above that should be in the lake/river/etc.?) Maybe Shelby18 and the others who have experience with them can elaborate, just don't want to see you damage anything trying to get her ready for action.(?)

Where do you plan on running it. Since I live somewhat near you, maybe I'll see you on the water sometime. I usually go to Truman Lake.

congrats on a nice find. perhaps you are already aware of this, but just in case you are not,i will remind you of the tendency of these carbs to leak. especially the rear one. you will want to check them out very thorughly. sure would hate to have you lose your Beuhler to a motor fire. skipp

Yes, it is a tad bright and it might get a paint job - although I have other projects. And yes this was garaged as it was running rich - the plugs show it. Thanks on the comment on not firing it without water in the pump, actually i plan to unbolt the drive shaft to tune it up with a garden hose on the engine. Hope the pump works OK as I don't want to rebuild it. The good thing is that it came with enough parts to assemble another pump. I'll probably run it around on lakes here near Blue Springs and Lee's Summit. I'll try to get some more photos on here soon.
Thanks for the positive comments!

That looks like "Short Bus" yellow.

Don't paint it until you get more peoples reactions on it. I for one like it a lot.

Welcome Aboard.

That's SWEET!! I would leave the hull just as it is, especially if that's the original color scheme, and double especially if that's the original gel coat. I bet it sounds awesome!

It is a great 20 ft paint job and all pretty solid, but the last owner wasn't a body guy and there are some deep sanding marks in the hull. The top has faded some and will probably get a fresh coat of black when the chrome and etc are off for plating/polishing. Have you guys ever used Imron on a boat? Being a car guy I have shot this stuff and it is tuff.
Thanks

I'm sure it is blasphemy for some but being a hot rodder at heart I couldn't live with the aqua-green crusader color. Ford is blue and if it is aluminum it gets polished. After a 20 year hiatus all hoses/rubber are replaced and once the tank is clean I plan to fire it up. It needs to see water this summer.

Good to see you back at it ET, the motor is lookin' good IMO ! A set of polished aluminum valve covers would really set it off ?
