TOPIC: New boat??

I just aguired a figerglass run about. It's 13'5" over all. It has a moulded in hull liner with three limber holes that allow flow to aft. across ways moulded seat mounts. I can find no numbers, nothing to indicate a manufacture. the hull to deck is glued with no fastners. I've stripped all the corroded hardware off in preperation for a full rebuild. There was a plywood engine mount reenforcement arcoss transom, that looked to be original The closest thing I can find to the hull configuration is an Aristocraft but the the deck is not raised and the dash is moulded in with no windshield mounts in the center of the helm was a crest that said Quality,Craftsmanship and something else unreadable.
Any help here?

Looks a little like a Cutter but there are knock-offs too. If something was popular you can bet there was someone to copy a hull.Welcome aboard. I'm sure somebody here will have an idea.

Yes I saw the cutter. But it didn't have the moulded dash or the raised wind shield mount. The Aristocrafts have a hatch forward thats moulded into the deck. The hull and deck are identical to the Arist. This just doesn't have the raise shear like them. I suppose it could be an early model or like you say a splash by someone else. There certainly were a lot of fly by nights back then. and I've splashed a few hulls myself.

Interesting boat, do you have photos from other angles- showing the deck, inside, or other distinguishing features? The dash bumps are quite a cool feature to have and not found on many boats.
You likely have a boat from a small manufacturer, perhaps local to the region you found the boat. |

Unfortunately I am down in Argentina right now and the boat is in Fl. Since I can't seem to find out anything about it. I am free to restore and modify it any way I choose. I came across this once with a fiberglass sidecar body. I searched for months but couldn't find anything about it. Can't wait to get home and start on the project. I'll be sure to document the whole thing.

Yes, I saw the Owen also. The fins are shorter and thinner. And the bow is much fuller. Mine almost looks like an old bath tub at the stem. I have yet to see anything with the dash board (spoilers?.)I gotta admit this is fun having like minded folks offering tips and advice.

My Ma was born in Homedale., Spent her youth between Caldwell and Bosie. Your Owen looks like something we use to ski behind up at McCall in the early 70's |

I picked up the boat in Carolina,I'll eventually take it back there from Fl. The thing that I find that is different from every other boat is the early corvette style dash board.
I have it upside down right now while I am working on the bottom. Lots of fill and fair on the bottom. It was very lightly built so I laminated a carling under the deck to renforce the bow deck and 6 layers of glass behind the dash board to strengthen that. I am almost ready to turn it over and start work on the top. Pic's to follow. Thanks for the tip I'll start searching that direction. |

I've made some real progress. I flipped in over and started with 100 but it was so bad I had to go to 80. I put 2 coats of awlgrip primer and then flipped it right side up. I mounted the engine and made sure all my controls we're going to work. Then I went on the deck, after I got 2 coats of prime on the deck The fins were really wavie so I decided to fair them out with Awlfair. While doing that I found a big void half way down the starboard side fin. I ground all that out. Now fairing everything back in. I was going to do the topsides in snow white and the deck in red. But everyone has said red would be sooo hot. I've decided to go with antique "Hatteras" white.

After fighting the urge to luanch and run the boat without finishing everything. I finally finished the paint, interior and engine rigged. I ran the boat thrugh Port Everglades and around the Dania Cut off canal. With the 30 Honda and four adults it will make 25kts flat out smooth water. That's all I ever wanted. Got lots of looks and positive comments. Even the FL marine patrol wanted to ask me about it. Still haven't determined the make but at this point who cares! Now I am working on the windshield and top.

I may be going to NC later this month. I'll check and see what I can find out. I've always thought Aristocraft had the closest lines.
