TOPIC: throttle/shift cable ends interchangeable?

and i would like to know how/if the ends come apart and interchange. i'd like to not start hacking into mine if there's an easy way. nothing seemed terribly obvious to me right away.

You need to replace the white guides (you have pre-'79) with the later style to use the cables (post '79) that you have. You will also need to buy the lock screw that secures the end of the cable.

Part numbers are:

Guide #0123141 approx $13.00 each.
Screw #0902650 approx $7.00 each.

Actually, the later cable guides will NOT fit in the earlier boxes - different dimensions at the pivot point. You would need to replace both handles to make it work... Best bet is to get some pre-1979 style OMC/BRP cables. I might have some used ones onhand - what length do you need?

Chinewalker - i need 12' cables. i didn't realize the cable ends would've changed over time... i guess i should've assumed so. =/
