That serial makes it a 1960. What is the model number? Could be a Merc 300 35hp or a Merc 400 45hp - they didn't make a 40hp in 1960. I don't see a plug on the side, so it is a manual start model.

If it turns over with even compression in all four cylinders, shifts gears and the lower unit isn't cracked, it's worth the $200. From the pic, it looks like it is missing the face plate. Does it have controls?
