OK, I picked up a 1959 Herters flying fish. Merc Mark 58AE, trailer for a low ball price. All the parts are there but the transom has more holes than a beehive and more window putty than the white house and sags like 90 degree ice cream. The transom does not have the aluminum that I see mentioned on these forums so I'm guessing the po did some majic on it. My first priority is to start the Merc while it's still hanging and then put it on horses. Then I will strip the hull and separate the upper and lower so I can rip a new transom. Is there any procedure steps for cracking the egg in two? This should be a fun project since my last restore was a mahogany Century that took 2 years and $$$$$ to do. The fish is not going to be a restore but a custom.
