I'd like to replace my bow & sterm lights with . LED bulbs

My boat uses the 1142 types. Have any of you done this? There seems to be a variety (numbers of LEDs etc.)of them and I was wondering which ones would be closest to what I'm currently using. I'm guessing the 18 or 45 led towers. Hoping someone can advise me.

Don't buy the cheap ones from Hong Kong off E-bay ! They didn't work for me. Bases twisted when I tried to put them in the socket . I guess it's like they say " You get what you pay for "

I did that. Mine were not the same number as yours. I didn't even have a stern light at the time. The bow light was a tight fit. I bought the sockets to go along with them. They don't seem bright enough either, but I rarely go out at night.

As you might surmise by my avitar, I'm an avid catfisherman and we work at night so lights can be on all night. The 18 light LEDs are rated at 110-120 lumens. After a little research I found typical 1142 incandescent is around 140. Anyone know if 110 lumens s visible for at least a mile? Also I found that the cool white LED stern lights are occasionally mistaken by other boats for a star when seen against a clear night sky, making the warm white color a better choice.

Hey! Swapping out your 1142 bulbs for LED is a great idea—way more efficient and reliable on the water. I’ve seen quite a few people go with the 18 or 45 LED tower-style replacements, and the 45s usually offer better brightness without drawing much more power. Just make sure to match the base type (BA15D for 1142) and check if your current fixtures are polarity-sensitive, since some LEDs only work one way.

Also, since you’re upgrading the lighting, have you thought about adding a custom neon signs to your boat? Something like your boat’s name or a fun phrase could look awesome inside the cabin or even mounted near the galley. It’s a cool way to give your boat a little extra personality. Let me know if you want help picking a design!
