TOPIC: G-3 stringer replacement

G-3 stringer replacement 14 years 11 months ago #32571

What is the correct way to replace the stringers in a 1960 G-3? What kind of wood or hi tech material to use? I have been told to place on flat concrete to keep the keel straight & flat. I am after a strong light repair. I will be running a 1961 Merc 800 with a 1964 Merc 1000 powerhead with low water pick up & going for a fast stable ride.
The transom has been rebuilt already with 5 layers of preresined plywood, wetted rovin woven preresined wood times 5 & inside edges filled with powdered cloth / resin mix in a tooth paste thickness.
Thanks so much.
Jeff

There is a forum specifically for G3 owners as part of this website. Go to the forums tab at the top and then to G3 Owners Assoc forum. Lots of guys on there have rebuilt lots of G3's and you will find them most helpful. Brian
