I haven’t been here in a while, but I am back. I am looking for information on runabouts designed by C. Raymond Hunt (Surfhunter fame) and built by O’Day boats in the early 1960s. They apparently had a 14, 16 and 18 ft model, possibly built in Canada. Also, the had a 23 ft cruiser and a 19 ft open boat at one point. Any shared knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

I found a 16 ft for sale an am considering it.

There's tons of the 16 hunts floating around Georgian bay in Ontario. My family back in the day made a mold of the 16 and produce quite a few for friends and family. (If I remember correctly, they didn't make molded seats like the originals) The hull is amazing; a mini version of the classic Bertram 31 "Moppie". You can get the brochures from this post on the hull truth or by contacting Hunt directly.

I'm very biased, but I couldn't recommend it enough.
George Rossiter, Rossiter boats designed a classic boats along the same lines as the hunts with some nice upgrades.

Edit: I was always told the Hunt 16 ran the best out of the three. 14-16-18

Bilge, Georgian Bay makes sense because Grampian Boats built some Hunt designed boats (licensed from O'Day) in the 1960s. Do you have any pictures?

The boat that am looking at was definitely built in the US. It is just shy of 16 ft long. However, in my research, I found a boat built as a Hunter 19 matches the same look and configuration. Back in the early 60s, there was a trend of measuring a boat along its gunwale and using that as the “size”. In this case, the gunwale is just over 19 feet. I have some documentation that this may be the case here.

The same boat may have been sold as a Hunt 16 in Canada and a Hunter 19 in the US.

I added a picture of the 18 on my first post in an edit but this here would be what at least I'm referring to as the "16 hunt"

www.boatdealers.ca/boats-for-sale/575968/hunt-16-midland-ontario

There's an example of a really nice 14 on the hulltruth as well.

Believe the boats eventually made their way to AUS and became Haines Hunter.

Edit:
Just looking at my recent survey on the 18 hunt, I have the dimensions, they may help.
LENGTH: 18.42 FEET/5.61 METRES**
LWL: 16.17 FEET/4.93 METRES
BEAM: 7.42 FEET/2.26 METRES
DRAFT: 2.17 FEET/0.66 METRES
FREEBOARD: 1.92 FEET/0.59 METRES
Surveyor estimated 1968 but this hull is pre hull numbers so it's just a guess.

Ill definitely keep you posted, when I get to going!

The boats were also built in the USA under Marscot Plastics
Seen it referred to as a "hunter"

More pictures of a 16 below, the 16 doesn't have the massive reverse chine that the 14 and 18 had. The 14 and 18 were made in a split mold, where the 16 wasn't due to the difference in chine shape. The chine on the 18 and 14 make it slam a lot more in the waves. The softer chine on the 16 was better.

These are all of the brochures I could find online. If you contacted Hunt Yachts' I'm sure they have the one for the 16.

Edit: I emailed them this weekend asking for any history and brochures they still have.
