TOPIC: Loose drain plug tube

Loose drain plug tube 9 years 10 months ago #124725

The drain plug tube on my 1966 Crestliner Del Rio is somewhat loose. I can spin it with my finger, not very easily but it can be spun. Should I recrimp it then seal it or just seal it? The transom in this boat is rock solid and I dont want water to leak past the drain tube. Its just the factory tube rolled over on each end.My impromptu crimp tool would be something like whats pictured....Thanks for any advise, Rob

If it were me I'd pull the drain tube, seal the wood inside the drain tube hole, then glue a new tube in with some good sealant (5200, Sikaflex, epoxy) and crimp it in place with the proper flaring tool.

Failing that, you could get one of the plastic threaded ones (but you should still pull the old one and seal the inside of the hole and glue the plastic one in place.
