Can anyone tell me the best way to remove sap (at least I think it's sap, very sticky) from boat seats? I just bought a very cheap starcraft that the seats are so sticky I don't even want to sit on them.

What are the seats made of ?
Are they cushions, fiberglass, aluminum ? I would guess a little paint thinner and a rag on a small spot to see if that works ? If the seats are fiberglass ? It could be because of the resin ? See the 12 minute mark of this video From Boatworkstoday.com for possible cause of the tackiness ? |

Paint/lacquer thinner might be a bit too "hot" for vinyl cushions.
If it is sap, try some WD-40, yup it works for that too! |

Scrub with Tilex on a Scotch pad and then treat with Meguiar's Marine/RV Vinyl & Rubber Cleaner & Protectant.

Simple Green cleaner works great on sap, and is non-toxic and will not hurt the vinyl.

And as a bonus, if the oil doesn't get the sap off, you can always add some garlic and basil, a little pasta...

cut down the pine tree over it!!!
I use Goo B Gone on car, boat etc. as I am not allowed to cut the pine trees over my driveway!!! |

Hope it's sap, because if someone used too strong of a cleaner, solvent or bleach on some of the older vinyls, it breaks down the vinyl and makes it sticky/gooey. There is no cure then other than to replace the the upholstery. I agree with using a good general cleaner like simple green first. (First, do no harm...)
