TOPIC: Newcomer needs help identifying Owens

Newcomer needs help identifying Owens 9 years 6 months ago #123313

Hello All

My name is Steve and I live in Dorset, England.

After some time looking for a boat of the same period as my 1966 MK3 Ford Zodiac I have acquired an Owens speedboat.

I'm told the boat is a 1965? runabout, but I'm not sure which model. I do know from the serial number that the outboard is a 1963 Merc 50.

Should there be a serial number on the boat from which the model and year can be traced?

I only got the boat yesterday and so haven't had time to examine it thoroughly. I'm confident it's buoyant, the hull is in good order as is the rest of the boat. I intend to get it off the trailer (which is shot) and on to some trestles soon because the trailer lowers have slightly deformed the hull. I'm hoping this will spring back slowly once the weight is off those points.

the helm is seized, which apparently is not uncommon, but the outboard turns over.

I would greatly appreciate any help in pinning down exactly which model it is.

It looks like one I had back in the 80s. Unfortunately I don't know what model it is. Mine was 13' bow to transom. I donated the hull and picked up a 50s lumie to put my motor on. Good luck with your search.
