TOPIC: New boater. Need help. 68 Larson

I'm new to boats. Just got my license today actually! I got a 68 Larson 14 foot with a 59 Johnson fat fifty. In the back by the fuel tank on the floor there is a circle clear plastic cover with screws holding it down. I took it off and it's only a few inches deep. What is it for? To pump out water? I'm lost when it comes to boats haha

Pictures would be good,my guess is to put a bilge pump there so it can pump all the water out.

Probably an inspection hatch to check for water in the below-the-floor dead space. On my boats, I usually install inspection hatches into large sealed compartments like under the floor. The purpose is just to periodically check for water there. Over time, a small leak can add hundreds of pounds of water into those spaces. If you don't have a way to check for water there, you may not know it's there except maybe to wonder why the boat's performance is so sluggish.
