To all:

The outage could have been much worse. I'd like to explain what happened.

First, we back up the site. Second, we store the backups on our network in the data center that we house our servers.

So, last Sunday the server that was running the site had a disk failure. Normally, that is not a unrecoverable error because we have a backup from the night before and a weekly backup.

When we went to get the backups the last nightly would not work: Saturday's. Probably the drive was failing during the backup.

The Friday backup seemed not to work either.

We had a very old backup from about a year ago.... ugh.

We drove to the data center on Thursday to retrieve the drive and the backups to try to recover from them. Friday we started copying the server's drive bit by bit to another drive. That took until Saturday.

Today, Monday, we were preparing to send the drive to a recovery specialist company. My network tech took a look at the Friday backup again that we had retrieved and hallelujah... it worked.

I have to say how relieved we all were. And also, what a lesson I have learned, or should say, re-learned from this. I've been in this business for 26 years and have never lost a customer's data. I I thought our procedures were good for FiberGlassics as well. Obviously, not.

I think the luck we experienced and possibly the good intentions of the people that come to this site may have helped. However, what will really help is for us to keep more backups and test them: Something I have preached to my customers for years.

A new raid configured Dell server is on the way and the site will go on it. I don't want this to happen again, ever.

My sincere apologies for any withdrawal symptoms you may have experienced but I'd just like to let you know that I have aged about 2 years in the last week. I now look like Keith Richards on a bad day.

Very Happy to see the site back up and running again. I know I am new here, but I too was lost and having withdrawals since the site went down.
My Span America Nomad is happy also, now it's onward and upward!!!

Boy, did I get a lot of stuff done on my Tomahawk. Precious time I would have spent online.

Ken - thanks so much for all of your hard work (and anyone else helping you). If I had pre-ordered all of my supplies, I could have gotten lots of work done like Cal...I had not realized how valuable this site and all of its talented people were until it was down. Maybe for my own good, I should take small "progress" breaks from time to time anyway if I ever want to get my own restoration completed - lol.

I was definitely missing the site. Thanks for all you do.

Glad to see the site up and running. It was a rough week without it and I've spent the past four days in rehab. I second the motion to hit the donate button. Ken will need to pay his therapist.

I generally view this site on an i phone . My poor old thumb didn't know what to do skipping over the FG app. Glad you're back because it's getting warmer outside(more or less).

Ken, Thanks for all your hard work to maintain this site, looks like a lot of us were going into withdrawal!!!

I appreciate the "love". And I will do my best to keep her up and running. It felt weird not having her around. Maybe the phrase, "Absence makes the heart grow fonder" is appropriate. The transfer to the new server will be a planned maintenance. Probably in the next week or three.

My team consists of Grant, Eddy and Chris. They are all smart guys and I appreciate them as well.

And just in time, too! I was about to head out to the lake this morning, and found I had a no spark issue! I knew the information was on here, but couldn't get the page up on my phone. Went to my PC, and there it was. Fixed the Merc and had a great day on the lake. This site is like gold.

Missing in action for a week makes us all realise what we lost and how we benefit from this site.
I just donated and I hope hoards of other members do the same (I am sure it has been a costly experience). Hope the new server presents an easy transfer and is nicely reliable.

Seriously bad withdrawals. Unfortunately I did not have the opportunity to work on my boats like Cal did. Hopefully in the next few months I will make some serious progress and be able to post the results on your awesome site.

I may need to start downloading all the stuff i am interested in - the problem is I would need a server of my own!!

With the site being down and with out the support of all the good people here I fell off the wagon. Yup I pulled home another boat.
