TOPIC: I see roving!

I see roving! 10 years 1 month ago #117378

I am restoring a 1960s fiberglass boat. I can see the woven roven through the gelcoat. How do I go about concealing it? I will be refairing and painting the whole boat. Not concerned about the amount of work. I just want it to look good when completed.

Cover the entire area with new glass mat then surface it.

61mysteryboay,

Bruce is correct. IF you have only a few problems, you could try an overlay of epoxy "whipped cream" applied, allowed to cure, faired down & then recoated before refinishing.

just my OPINION, satx

Seeing it is one thing; feeling it is another. If you can see it but not feel it, paint it. If you can feel it, sand and re-gelcoat, sand to about 600 grit wet or dry and then paint.
