I just bought a 1974 Silverline Aquatica with the 165 HP I6 Mercruiser motor. The motor runs great, but I noticed that the v-belt doesn't go over the water pump pulley, it goes around the crank pulley and the alternator but just skips the water pump. Now I am no master mechanic, but I believe the belt should also be running the water pump. Am I missing something or is the belt missing something?

It's not uncommon for the alternator to be driven off a separate belt, with another belt running the water pump. You ARE missing the water pump belt if I'm looking at your pic correctly.
