As winter sets in here northern Michigan and a boat that needs to be restored. I cleaned out the stuff in the boat [controls,cables,fuel tanks,ect] and I see that there is a repair or a bandaid fix to one of the stringers. I read the info on transom /stringer and how do I find out short of cutting away the fiberglass to know if the stringer is hollow or solid wood or cardboard. The stringer is on a 1958 Bee line sappire just behind the drivers seat

Drill a few 1-1/2" holes with a hole saw along the paths of the stringers and start poking with an ice pick. Save the cut out discs for refilling the holes.
