TOPIC: power trim problem

power trim problem 11 years 2 months ago #101962

83 Cajun fishing boat

I bought it from a guy who wrecked it - I've been putting it back together.

The power trip is hit & miss. It has gone up & down for me - but recently stopped moving.

I hear a motor whirring but it doesn't move - it "sounds" good - but nothing.

When the guy wrecked the boat he hit the skagg on something hard enough to poke a hold in it. That is repaired (we will see anyway)

I thought about having my son hit the switch while I lift or push down on the engine to see if it will engage.

Thoughts?

Have you checked to make sure the trim system has enough fluid in it?

Wow - I guess I need to do some research on power trim - I thought it was some sort of jack screw - didn't realize it could just be low on oil.

Time to go to google!

I'll check that tomorrow when I have a chance & let you know what I find.

Here's a link (FREE) to the service manual, they come in mighty helpful when dealing with a motor you're not familiar with;
