Does the spring just pierce the plug wire and that's how it stays on? Yes, the barb on the spring simply pierces the insulation. They can be a little tricky to get the barb to puncture the rubber wire - be careful that you don't poke a hole in your finger. The high - tension spark travels right through this connection - no need for crimping or soldering. As professor says, a dab of oil will help the pull the spring out of the cap. You can also use a dab of silicone grease or dish soap.
