Since it is a mechanical drive system, could it be shifted into reverse and run at high speed to achieve forward motion? Does a LH prop exist for a stringer outdrive? Running in reverse would put all the preloads onto the spiral cut gears wrong and reverse gear is not supported by bearings to take that kind of load.
