TOPIC: 1958 Johnson Super Seahorse Tune-Up

Picked up a 1958 Super Seahorse last fall, and now am getting around to cleaning it up and getting it running...

This is going to be a thread just showing general progress, I will ask questions in separate, topic specific threads.. hopefully this will help me and anyone else searching for this information in the future.

I am not going to completly disassemble this motor, that is more than I feel is necessary, but what I will be doing is some general tune-up tasks, prior to firing this baby up... I have never worked on a motor such as this, but hey, how hard can it be right?

I plan on right now completing the following.

1. Replace and clean up water pump impeller and housing
2. Replace brocken skeg with a somewhat better skeg
3. Clean up carburator
4. Replace spark plugs and wires and check compression
5. Replace fuel hoses and other rubber parts as needed.
6. Lubricate manual pull-start and check coils for wear and tear
7. Look into taking the long shaft extension out of the motor shaft
8. FIRE IT UP! and tune.
9. General repaint and new decals
