TOPIC: Everude lark 2, 40 hp where is the hidden bolt

Everude lark 2, 40 hp where is the hidden bolt 2 days 5 hours ago #149541

i'm new to Everude, and just bought this
i am stumped to find the hidden bolt. i took off the 6 big ones under the plate, i disconnected the shaft linkage.
forgot to mention i am talking about removing the lower unit, it seem there is one more thing holding it up i just can't find out what, it wiggles and is a little loose but something towards the back is hung up

BUT it will not come loose, i read and found that there is a hidden bolt under the trim fin or something but can not find anything
Please help if you can thank you
I can't get the motor into neutral or reverse, the lever moves to the different positions, the linkage seemed to move up and down. and as i run it is seems to be leaking gear oil.
I have two motors, the picture shows the parts motor which seems to change gears correctly, but it does not run. I was going to switch out with the one that runs

There should be one more bolt, coming from the top, at the rear of the lower unit. It's obscured by the outer cover over the center section.

That cover is removable with a bunch of flat-head screws.

If they don't want to come out, you'll need to heat them. A hand impact or small electric impact wrench will help bust 'em loose, but be careful not to break 'em.

If this is a fresh-water motor, you shouldn't have any trouble. Salty Dog, Beware!!

Here's a 1960 Evinrude 40hp, close enough to yours. Note bolt #7 in your diagram, that's the hidden one:

www.marineengine.com/parts/johnson-evinrude-parts.php?year=1960&hp=40&model=35018&manufacturer=Evinrude§ion=BIG+TWIN+GEAR+CASE

Hope that helps..............ed

Ed, thank you. no book or videos explained it that way. so to get to that bolt the whole back shaft cover from above the lower unit to the bottom of the motor has to come off. that is just a crazy way to design something. I have to say in my frustration that thought crossed my mind but I just said that's too dumb to have to do that, lol. Also, mine are Philips head screws. i added some pics just to be clear. i will get that done tomorrow

Also, thank you for all your help giving me tips and sharing years of experience, a big big help to this want a be boater lol

Well, Phillips heads should be easier to get out!

Get a good impact bit and have at it. Have Fun!
