TOPIC: 25hp johnson repower?

ive got a 62 40hp Johnson (motor in good shape) electric shift bad. will that power head replace a 55 25hp Johnson motor? thanks .Bob

The 40hp should be a "super quiet" type, and that powerhead bolt pattern isn't the same as the older 25hp. There are some newer 40's that would have the same pattern as the 25 and older non-super 35's.

One thing I'll do when researching this type of compatibilty is to compare powerhead base gaskets. If the gaskets are the same, you've got a pretty good chance of transplanting the powerhead.

This is a good place to look up parts, excellent drawings and the thing I like is, they usually have pictures of real parts. Really helps when trying to identify things.

Is the lower unit robust enough for that switch? I know the 35's are fine, not sure about the 25s....

the 28 or 33 or 40hp commercial should fit that 25 base, if it is the 1 water tube job, but I also think it would be too much for the 25 lower...looks like he needs a 40 super quiet or lark lower for the 1962 40...john
