TOPIC: 59 Johnson wtae intake

Gents, is the intake that has the tubular
Filter the main inlet for the water cooling for the
Engine, or is it the screen on the side of the lower
Unit and can u replace the tubular filter and where
Can I find one of needed. Where do I hook
The muffs?

The screened tube behind the prop is the main water pickup on these motors the side inlet is to ensure good water pickup when the motor is moving slowly or at idle. I have never had to replace a screen on any of the 100's of motors I have had just a good cleaning seems to be all that is needed.
It's almost impossible to hook up muffs to these motors. The best solution is to place a large barrel around the motor and then fill it up until the bulge that houses the water pump is submerged by about 1" so it will prime.

If your motor has the removable side cover with the screen, you can prolly make a flush attachment. Bob(Waterwings) made one for his v-4. Here's a pic of an original one.
