Gentleman and ladies;
When I started this thread I wanted to put the names together with the boats that we all share her on FG.
Here we are into the second page.
The photos, the comments, the attitudes of the boat owners/restorers is second to none. It is truly inspirational, not only to each other, but to the new folks and guests that visit this sight.
Hopefully these shots will inspire people to go ahead and get that old boat they see sitting behind their neighbors shed and breath new life back into it. Put it back out on the water with family and friends where it was originally intended to be.
I know for myself and my wife, it has truly created a new facet in our time here on this planet.
My hats off and a deep bow to each and every one of you.

Nice shots of your 17 Melanie! Yeah you made us all look like landlubbers this year. Looking forward to camping with you two again on Nov 7/8th out on Skagit, with a.......Skagit!
Rick's former Catalina looks good in the background.
I'll get Rick to post here too.

Didn't get on the water as much as we would have liked with this one. A '60 Glasspar Club Mariner. Had our '72 Thunderbird cuddy on a local mountain lake all summer.

I want a big old one. In the 50's or 60's and at least 34 foot.
Welcome aboard FG.

I've had her up to about 110...... with plenty more to go.

The hulls were capable of 110 to 120 back in the day with a pair of 140 hp (at the crankshaft) Mercury in line "stackers". Our engines are putting out something over 350 hp each...(at the prop shaft). so we are close to triple the horsepower available when the boat was originally built. No one will ever find out how fast it really is....... but I will certainly get it up over 120.

Really quite incredable when you think of a design from that era with the materials available and that is still considered fast today !! SPECIAL boat...

1958 Crestliner Commander Aluminum 12' Runabout- this was it's FIRST YEAR EVER SINCE NEW with forward controls in it- this one was hardly used on a tiny pond with a small tiller motor on it for 30 years and then slept the last 20 years until I got it. It is a fantastic riding boat, very stable for a 12' runabout. It only has run with an 18 on it, can't wait to REALLY go with a 25 on it next year. Brand new fir front seat, and new transom, everything else is original.

The other boat is a '74 Starcraft rowboat that I made (crudely) into a runabout. It goes amazingly well for the small craft it is but is tippy.

In the past 55 years I have driven, raced and built everything from early Powercats to Mod U tunnel boats to current era Offshore cats. Nothing in my experience with air entrapment hulls feels or acts anything like this "wing". Dave Switzer's "stroke of genius" is still arguably the fastest and most efficient hull design ever created.

Bogman,
My dad knew Bob Massey who was killed years and years ago in one of his wings testing at Elisnore. Did you know him? His shop was right around the corner from our house. And dad's good friend was Massey's glass guy. His name is still on the cowl of one of Bobs old wings.

They were sure a fun boat to watch in the old Parker 9 hour.

Hopefully next year, will be able to run some restored glass on the lakes.

Until that time, was able to enjoy the waters in a restored 1954 13.5' Century Imperial Sportsman with its restored original mated 1954 Big Twin Electric Evinrude 25. When up on plane, all problems seemed to just float away.

Bob Massey was not killed in a wing.... He was badly injured in a triple engine Jones wooden tunnel hull a short time after he stopped driving wings.

My ride this summer: a 1981 Glastron SSV151 in pretty good condition. A bit underpowered with only a 35hp but I can still do mid-twenties with the bimini up.
