Thanks for the details. It appears that the guy bought the boat .. or at least he was going to buy it. But the posts went dead. He did include some details about it's size (about 30' with 7' beam). He also siscussed it being some sort of patrol boat. Here's the link:

Thanks Al and Sandy. It's good hearing from you. The G3 group had invited our Raleigh-Durham AOMCI group, so I gave it a shot. I had a good time that day. But I gotta say running the little boats is not going well with knees these days. I am starting to restore a Standup that dad made in 1956-57 .. a year before the hydros. Maybe that will be less stress on the body. I hope to have it in the water this summer. I'll attach a picture of me riding her at age 13 ...

I've been contemplating something like the G3 or other classic, just so I could sit down! Then my wife would join in ...

Woodglass - the guy who posted about buying it in Sacramento said the boat was gutted. Also commented that it was some sort of harbor patrol boat. I bet it was a complete boat and possibly more of them out there. I am thinking probably not from the U.S. so they might be laying around in Europe somewhere. Apparently it's a 30 footer .. not small. I hope it starts showing up in meets one of these days soon!

. I Love it! if it was on my side of the country all this talk about buying and wondering what it is before handing over the money would be over and done with! I'd take out a loan if I had to, to buy that awesome vessel. It would be in my back yard never to be seen again until I was finished and ready to unveil a thing of beauty and wonderment for all to see. I can just see me cruising the Alabama coastal waterways and the snoots with the half million dollar yachts stopping to stare with their mouths wide open. LOL that thing is beyond awesome!!

That's ^^^ 1 benefit of having a derelict fleet....

If found, it 'should' be proudly shown after a vintage accurate rehab. As likely a 1 of 1, outfitting it as it was originally, would be exceptionally difficult.

I would speculate the boat was the work of talent from the aviation metal working trade. There is a lot of that skill in CA. If I guesstimate from the design, its part pre WW2 small boat style and the Art Deco of the 40's. A likely scenario is that a aviation metal guy built it for themselves or a small company built it post WW2 as a prototype when they found work short because of the post war slowdown in the aviation industries. There was a lot of war tech transplanted into traditional industries in that time.

I sure wish we had more facts. Maybe if it pops up again some one familiar with metal work can have a look.
