Glas-Steel Boats

North Star Marine Co.

600 W. Tenth Ave.

Monmouth, Illinois

This company was a subsidiary of Neil W. Ekblaw's Monelle Corporation. It built boats up to 1958 when William J. Horvath's Glastex Co. made a deal to build boats at the Monmouth factory. Ekblaw was also president of North Star Marine Sales. The Glas-Steel power boats were designed and built with a tubular steel keel and frame supporting a fiberglass hull. This was similar to the Glastex Co.'s Speed Queen boat construction which used aluminum channel for stringers but plywood frames.
