According to Andreas Jordahl Rhude, Ray Greene built his first fiberglass boat in 1942. He is generally credited with developing the fiberglass boat. He built sailboats for the most part and never got into speed boats. Introduced in 1958, the Ray Greene 25' New Horizons was a model of cruising auxiliary designed by Sparkman and Stephens. Ray Greene was also known for their 16' fiberglass Rebel class of racing sloops, 20' Flying Dutchman, 17'National One-Design, 12' Nipper, and 10' Vixen. The Flying Dutchman was a fiberglass version of the 19'10" Olympic Games-class; the National was a fiberglass-version of which Ray Greene was designated as the official builder.
