Any V-6 will work fine. I would expect a 150hp would get upper 50mph speeds, 200hp will run 65+. Stock, ski trim. BE WARNED!!!!! If you water test it before you put it up for sale, you may not sell it. As stated, Checkmates are addictive, and you would LOVE the ride. At a cruising speed of 40mph, the ride is smooth in choppy water, and uses less fuel than you would think due to less RPM's needed. An occasional full throttle burst in calm water is as close to a modern day Fountain of Youth as you'll ever find. Trust me, if I could afford it, that beauty would be MINE!!! Wish I still had my early 70's 14 footer. Ran like a scared cat with a 125 Evinrude V-4, but at cruise speeds, used about the same gas as my older 14' Starcraft/50hp Merc. Scared the wife too many times so I sold it.

lol kerry i alredy want to keep it but we are so far from big water without motor hp limits.
i got the back seat back done today new wood and foam,they were not that bad,but we want it like new.
the pics of the metal flake just dont do the flake any justice.

the pic of the metal flake isnt good,and the darker spot is the shadow from the garage,if you click on the pic it gets bigger then click again then the metal flake shows up better,john
