It's been a long time since I worked on those but if I recall there are maybe three notches that have to line up for the correct timing. The marks are on the brackets holding the dist. and one of the marks is not on the flywheel but under it? but visible close to where the bracket mounts. I know there are pictures on this site somewhere and they will be in this JEGO forum but a few years back. Do a search and I'll also see what I can find. That hidden mark is probably gunked up.
