TOPIC: Rub Rail Question on '60 MFG.

Rub Rail Question on '60 MFG. 12 years 5 months ago #49633

I have a '60 Corry Carefree and I am going to order new vinyl for the rub rails. I figured out which one I need for around the cap but I am not sure what to order for the rail along the hull. There was nothing in this rail when I bought the boat so I don't know what it looked like or what holds it in place. Sure can use some help on this one. Thanks.

I don't think it ever had anything in it. Looks like mine.
If you look inside the rivets go into this mating piece inside. I think it is just for structural strength.

I stand corrected. I never seen one with an insert in it.

I feel sure Wefco or somebody like that would have what you need, Jon;

Thanks Mark ... I looked at the site but there are so many different shapes that I don't know which one goes in there. I think if I call them maybe they will know.

Robert ... I may just do it the way yours is. That is the way it was when I bought it. Maybe it never had one in there .... I don't know.

Yes, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

I also just acquired a Carefree from about that same time. The MFG sticker lists the serial number as 1207. I bought it for the motor, thinking that it was an aluminum boat. The rail is empty like yours. What appear to be the original seats are there,with the aluminum wrapped foam under them. The floor looks just as I have found in old brochures.

So tell me guys, what do I REALLY have here??? This is the fourth boat in my yard, and my wife says that she doesn't need a job, she'll just be the receptionist at the "Bigcity" boat dealership! It came with a decent little tilt trailer.

I always thought that the part you are pointing to is called a "spray rail" / the rub rail is what goes all the way around (except transom) at the top of the gunwhale to prevent "rubbing" the boat on the dock / I need to replace the rub rail on my 1959 MFG 15' / I'm trying to locate the proper rail - any help with that would be appreciated

Hi Lapstrake,

A assume that you are talking about the rubber/vinyl insert? Many of us go to Wefco Rubber in California. If they dont have it, they can make it. I got rub rail for my 1959 Glasspar G3 in white... and my current project, a 1964 Crestliner Explorer I needed 60' of narrow black (it runs around the cuddy top too)... for the Crestliner, they (or anyone else) didnt have the profile, so I sent them a piece and they manufactured the die (for a cost) and produced exactly what I needed.
