Next step in my rebuild is working on my starter.
I tore it down, cleaned it up, replaced a brush and now in the process of putting it back together.
The question is, what parts do I grease? Do i grease both the upper and lower places where the starter axle spins on the housing?
Thanks.

Thanks Dave.
So just so I'm clear, there is no ground required between the axle and the top or bottom housing correct.

Although the (2) brush starter for the 300-4 'should' do the trick,...I have been disappointed with the results after a local rebuild shop's efforts.
I have found that use of a (4) brush starter works a LOT better.
The one I use is a wee bit longer, and requires a solenoid placement change, but Holey Moley,...You won't believe the difference.
I "THINK" that I typically use a '61 800FGS starter in this case,...But i just can't remember.
Probably something Charlie S suggested back in the day, and ECK rejected, but an awesome upgrade IMHO.
Especially better if your 40ci doesn't have a stator.
ANYWAY,...If you are interested in this retro-fit,...I will contact one of the guys that I did this for and confirm just exactly what I used.

Thanks Dr. I'll see how things turn out with this one and if I have issues I'll look into your suggestion in more detail
