I have a Mercury 700 EL, serial number 1301769. I don't plan to use this on my G3 if and when I get it on the water. Condition of motor is completely unknown to me. Boat was last registered about 6 years ago. Just curious as to what year this is. Is this a "dockbuster"? I was offered $50 for it or $75 with the controls but that's really not worth the trouble. Thanks.

Are you sure it is a 62? the late 61 and all 62's were full gearshift. that box is for a Direct Reversing motor

replaced it with this one because i was able to mount it on the gunnel,lot more comfortable to operate.

Only one control cable coming forward from the port side of the motor. DR fer sure.

Yes it is a DR, and so is the control box in the boat. If you are not that keen on learning about them and restoring one, sell it on and replace it with a full gearshift model. They are not for the faint of heart if you are new to vintage Mercurys, and that control box is quite rare.

There was one of the Maple Leaf outboard members here where I am looking for one from me a while ago. I will contact him for you and see if he still needs it. If so I will pass him over to you. Those boxes are hard to find!!!
