TOPIC: 1948 Lauson T600 6hp air cooled 4- stroke.

1948 Lauson T600 6hp air cooled 4- stroke. 14 years 6 days ago #4356

I just bought a 1948-49 Lauson, T600, air cooled, 2-cylinder, 4-cycle, 6hp outboard engine. Until I found this engine, I thought the first 4 cycle outboards were the Crosly conversions.
Apparently these engines were made from 1940 until 1956 when Power Products (Tecumseh) bought them out and stoped makeing the outboards.
I am trying to find out the oil capacity, and level, of this engine. There is no dip stick and no visable mark.
Does any one have any experence with this engine?
I have ordered a manule/parts book for this unit, but it doesn't give that information.
Thanks. Darb.

Thanks Mike, I ordered the manual and got it today. Like the man from AOMCI said, the manual said, "fill er up". I guess that means to the bottom of the theards?
My engine is tan and has some dents and dings in the tank, but it runs. Being a 48-49 it is direct drive. What a great looking engine he has.
Thanks again, Darb.

Charles, How much oil does your engine take? Do you fill it to the bottom of the theards in the fill tube?
