TOPIC: Any idea what it is?

Any idea what it is? 6 years 6 months ago #134208

Hi everyone, so I have an addiction to odd looking and off beat vehicles. And this week's itch was a little 12ft fiberglass cutie in a yard I was cleaning for work.
So after talking to the owner, I acquired the boat. And after work I managed to pull it from it's potential grave at 10pm that evening and it came home.
I HAVE A BOAT!
Lol now the fun part.
It's rough, it's beat, it's been re-gelled with some minor mods and fixes, but it's still rather solid and it's still sealed.

What I know:
It's fiberglass, 12ft long, outboard power, was originally blue on top red on bottom with a white stripe, and it's old.

So the starting question of this adventure:
What year/make/model is it?

Feel free to ask me for other measurements or details.
I really have no clue where to start describing this shape to begin a search for it lol so any and all info will be greatly appreciated.
Also, will post better pics after I clean it out later today.
-S.B.

The struggle continues lol.

So, I spoke to a guy named Bill who collects odd boats and he said I should search out a Lee Wangstad out of Minn. and see if he has any clue. Also said he was difficult to get a hold of. After an interweb search, I figured out Lee is a pretty busy guy, and probably a bit too busy to be looking at random "hey what boat is this" emails in his inbox.

So...

Anyone on here know Lee Wangstad and wanna direct his attention this way?

Lol, so I'm finally at the "chasing guru's" part of my search. It's a bit more phone work, but hey it's progress.

Hi,
I saw the pictures a couple of days ago. I do have an idea, but I am tied up for a few days. When I get back home I'll look for the information. Very interesting boat.

Awesome! Thankyou Lee! I cant wait to hear your thoughts and input on my little oddity. I'm so lost. My head just spins trying to decipher this thing. It's too many unique styles crammed onto one tiny boat. I can find about 20 specimens online that are close but none have every styling cue of this thing lol

Okay, so my hunch turned into nothing. I was thinking HavegCraft, but after looking at my files, that’s not it. I knew that I’d seen it before, maybe it was just those others that have been posted here. From the front it looks like others that have some pretty enormous fins on them, and are still a mystery too. I’ll keep my eyes open, but I’m afraid that I’ve come up empty. I don’t seem to be able to receive the photos from the past posts, Andy, but I think that I do remember seeing them. Sorry.

I am reasonably sure it's a Klipper, but my copies of the photos in the archived post are currently inaccessible. Maybe Ken can pull up the images from the archived forum.

Okay, I have photos of three Klippers, gathered from FiberGlassics / Ebay / Craigslist, wherever.

I have never been able to turn up more information on these boats, other than the metal tag found on one boat, port side, just behind the windshield coaming on the gunwale.

Woohoo! It's a Klipper! What the hell is a Klipper?

Lol omg thankyou guys! Much kudos to all who weighed in on this, as I was lost on this little oddity. I knew it was different and odd, but I had no idea it was gonna be this unique with such a vague background.

I guess for now I'm gonna kinda take it slow, assess what damage she has and go from there. She won't be my primary focus for a bit. I've got too many projects to complete before I can think about piloting my way into a sand bar with a martini in hand. But I do aim to find out more on Fiberglass Development Corp. and the who, what, where, when on my lil Klipper in the mean time.

Again thankyou everyone,
