Is there such a thing as an OMC part number cross reference? Is there on available somewhere?

What I am after is: I have 1966 Johnson 100hp. I need a lower unit gearcase # 381844

What other year and hp motors can I look to for a gearcase that will work?

Any help is appreciated!
Thanks yall!

Have you tried the AOMCI Forum? There is quite few OMC experts on there. There is one nice guy named Garry. He was born and raised on OMCs.
There are quite a few OMC experts here too! B)

The 66 / 67 / 68 100 HP used that big gearcase.----Now if you are desperate or short of funds a free to you 64 / 65 --- 90 HP will fit as well.----Depending on where you live I have about a dozen of those gearcases.
Not really interested in shipping from Ontario.

These gearcases are rugged ( used on the 245 HP sterndrive with different gears ) so they are near indistructable on the outboard.
Maintenance has a lot to do with how long they will last.
In many areas used ones are not that hard to find.

Thanks everyone! My problem is not really a worn lower unit, well.... sorta.. the previous owner dragged the skeg from Indiana to Tennessee. So there is not much left. I may try and get a skeg welded on, but Im not sure on dimesions, and if I can find a lower unit, I'll just swap it out. Easy enough for me to do that, I need to take it apart, clean it and replace the seals anyways.

While you are at it check the water pump impeller and housing. B)

T & R marine sells replacement skegs that are made from cast aluminum. Plate aluminum will work, but it bends very easily. You can also dig up a blown gearcase and transplant the skeg to yours. A skilled welder could fix it up so it looks new. Matching it to what was originally there is not important, not necessary. The main purpose of the skeg it so protect the prop, so just be sure it is slightly lower than the diameter of the propeller.

I just thought it would be easier to find a replacement gearcase or lower unit. I can probably buy another motor for what people want for electric shift lower units.
