I'm getting ready to replace the springs and boots on my 1960 Lark 40. I was thinking about using a heat gun to make the boots more flexible and maybe some dielectric grease for lube.

Does anyone have any tricks or procedures to get the job done?

dielectric grease or a little shot of WD-40 i have used in the past.. but if the rubber is really stiff...a trick I use on air tools for installing the tight rubber boot covers is to soak them in hot water to soften them up..

Thanks vintagerunner, hot water sounds easier than a heat gun.

I have had good luck spraying the inside of the boot with silicone spray.
Best,

Spray the inside with silly cone and then push the wire through. Use a plyers to push the pointy end of the spring through the wire and then pull the wire back through until the spring is in position.
